The phrase “canary in the coal mine” has been around for decades, but who first thought of bringing a bird underground? Danish film director, Martin Furze, has created a short film that imagines how it might have started.

Did you know that the method of using canaries in coal mines was a life-saving practice in Britain until as recently as 1986? The British legislation ordered it to stop - 200 canaries were still in use. Pretty crazy.
